Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory, at the "Top End" of Australia. Situated on the Timor Sea, Darwin has a population of approximately 129,100, and has grown from a pioneer outpost and small port into one of Australia's most modern and multicultural cities.  It's proximity to South East Asia makes it an important Australian gateway to these countries where which many of our food and laid back attitude but respectful demeanor is reflected in the locals conduct.  Darwin has many venues and outdoor locations that are an ideal and scene setting place for "i do".

Founder of Darwin Dream Weddings, Sherisse Tanonef, is Darwin born and raised.  She is familiar with all of Darwin's most picturesque locations and has developed key contacts with local wedding suppliers and venues.

As a local Territorian and an expert in the wedding scene, Sherisse would be the most appropriate Darwin wedding planner you will ever come across in this small yet vibrant city.  She herself has been in 8 weddings, starting as a flower girl at age 10, and bridesmaid for friends and family at various cities and countries around the world.  Her own wedding in 1999 was in Kupang, West Timor, with over 860 guests in attendance from all over Indonesia, Australia, Germany, the USA and the Philippines.  Her Filipino ethnic heritage and her husband's Chinese and English decent, their unique wedding was a mixed multicultural experience of a lifetime.  With Balinese dancing, the quick change into a Chinese wedding gown, and the display of traditional Timorese dresses, it was a wedding that future bride and grooms of Kupang would replicate as the ultimate benchmark.

​During her high school years she lived in Arizona, USA where she started her humble working career in the US franchise 'Denny's Restaurant'.  She also helped her parents run a small café which they owned.   Her working career continues to span from restaurants at Novotel Accor Hotels, and world class companies such as the Intercontinental Hotel Group.  For 4 years Sherisse worked as a Meetings & Events Sales Executive, overseeing wedding and events for 3 properties in Darwin (Holiday Inn Darwin, Holiday Inn Esplanade, and Crowne Plaza Darwin).

Returning to Australia after commencing studies at Northern Arizona University, she graduated from Northern Territory University, with a Bachelor of Business (major in Hospitality Management).  Sherisse also completed the Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment as her desire to train in the hospitality industry was recognised through her various jobs she held in hotels and restaurants.  In 2001 she had a short stint in Sydney when her parent's purchased a café and needed her to train their staff in the new business.  Her next venture for the following 2 years was with her husband who was obliged to help with family business in Kupang, West Timor, where together they operated an enterprise of restaurants, clubs, hotels, taxi fleet, overall managing over 100 employees.  Their time there also included creating, organising and managing various events that involved local community and government departments.  They learned the challenges of language, culture, and family traditions that were not advertantly taught in their Australian university course. 

 

Based in Darwin these days, Sherisse has since completed a Certificate in

Wedding Planning, and is a Professional Wedding Planner - member of the WPAA -

Wedding Planning Association of Australia.
